Parties and Contract Type

This contract formalizes the employment relationship between the Employer, a catering company providing food service for weddings, corporate functions, private events, and institutional clients, and the Employee named in Schedule 1. The catering operation maintains a central production kitchen and deploys staff to client venues across the region.

Employment is on a permanent basis commencing on the Start Date. The contract reflects the event-driven nature of the catering industry, where workload concentuates around weekends, holiday seasons, and large-scale corporate calendars. All provisions comply with employment legislation in the Employer's registered jurisdiction.

The Employee acknowledges that catering work involves irregular hours, off-site deployment, physical demands including carrying service equipment, and strict food safety compliance at third-party venues where the Employer may not control all environmental conditions.

Term, Probation, and Probation Review

A probationary period of three months applies from the Start Date. The Employer will assess the Employee's performance across multiple event types, evaluating food preparation quality, ability to work under time pressure during live service, presentation standards, and teamwork with both permanent and casual event staff.

Either party may terminate during probation with statutory notice. The Employer will schedule a formal review after six weeks to discuss the Employee's progress in areas such as multi-course plating speed, dietary accommodation accuracy, and client-facing professionalism at venue sites.

Confirmation of permanent status follows successful probation. If the Employee has not yet demonstrated competence across all event formats (buffet, plated, canape, food station), the Employer may extend probation by written agreement for up to three additional months.

Duties, Role, and Exclusivity

The Employee's duties span kitchen production, on-site event setup, food service delivery, and post-event breakdown. Roles may include chef, sous chef, event coordinator, or service staff. Outside catering engagements require prior written consent from the Employer.

Remuneration, Benefits, and Pay

A fixed monthly salary is paid in arrears, with overtime rates applied for events exceeding standard contracted hours. The Employer provides meals during event deployments. Uniform and equipment are supplied at no cost to the Employee.

Working Time, Location, and Hours

The Employee works from the central kitchen and deploys to client venues as the event calendar requires. Weekend and evening shifts are standard during peak wedding and corporate season. Travel time to event venues is included in paid working hours.

Why catering business businesses need a employment contract

Catering Business employees often handle sensitive information, operate specialised equipment, or interact directly with customers, making role-specific employment contracts essential. A catering business employment contract must address industry-standard working patterns, health and safety obligations, and any required certifications or training. Restrictive covenants like non-compete and non-solicitation clauses need to be calibrated to catering business market norms to be enforceable.

The global catering services market is expected to reach $450 billion by 2028.
