Parties and Contract Type
This Employment Contract is between the Employer, a trucking company providing freight transportation, logistics, and haulage services across regional and national routes, and the Employee. The business operates a fleet of HGVs, flatbeds, tankers, or refrigerated units and employs drivers, transport planners, warehouse operatives, and fleet maintenance staff.
Employment is permanent from the Start Date, governed by applicable employment law and transport regulations. This contract is the complete agreement between the parties.
Trucking involves long hours on the road, compliance with drivers' hours regulations and tachograph requirements, securing loads for transit, and maintaining vehicle roadworthiness. The Employee holds the required driving licence category and Driver CPC qualification and commits to ongoing compliance.
Term, Probation, and Probation Review
A three-month probation period applies. For drivers, the Employer assesses safe driving record, load securing competence, compliance with drivers' hours rules, fuel efficiency, and professionalism when representing the company at customer collection and delivery points. For office and warehouse staff, evaluation covers planning accuracy, stock management, or administrative efficiency.
Statutory notice applies during probation. A review at six weeks covers the Employee's driving performance from telematics data, delivery punctuality, vehicle inspection discipline, and adherence to the Employer's transport operating procedures.
Permanent employment follows successful probation. Extension may be offered if the Employee is awaiting ADR certification for hazardous goods, completing FORS driver training, or building experience on vehicle types not yet covered.
Duties, Role, and Exclusivity
The Employee drives assigned routes, secures loads, completes vehicle walkaround checks, and maintains tachograph records. Warehouse and planning staff fulfill their respective operational duties. Competing haulage employment requires written consent.
Remuneration, Benefits, and Pay
Salary is paid monthly in arrears, with overnight subsistence allowances for multi-day routes. The Employer funds Driver CPC periodic training and medical renewals. Fuel-efficient driving bonuses may be awarded based on telematics scores.
Working Time, Location, and Hours
Working hours comply with drivers' hours regulations. The Employee starts from the depot or directly from route collection points. Overnight stays may be required on long-haul routes, with sleeper cab facilities or hotel accommodation provided.

Why trucking company businesses need a employment contract
Trucking Company employees often handle sensitive information, operate specialised equipment, or interact directly with customers, making role-specific employment contracts essential. A trucking company employment contract must address industry-standard working patterns, health and safety obligations, and any required certifications or training. Restrictive covenants like non-compete and non-solicitation clauses need to be calibrated to trucking company market norms to be enforceable.
