Bookshop Employment Contract Generator

This Employment Contract is made between the Employer, an independent bookshop selling new and curated titles across fiction, non-fiction, and specialty categories from its retail premises, and the Employee. The bookshop combines retail bookselling with community events, author readings, book clubs, and children's storytelling sessions, requiring staff with genuine literary knowledge and customer engagement skills.

The Employee joins on a permanent basis from the Start Date, governed by the employment laws of the applicable jurisdiction. This contract is the complete agreement and supersedes prior communications.

Bookshop work involves shelving and organizing stock by genre and author, operating POS and inventory systems, recommending titles to customers based on their reading preferences, and supporting events that may fall outside standard retail hours.

Probation is three months. The Employer evaluates the Employee's knowledge of the store's stock and genre sections, quality of reading recommendations, till operation competence, and ability to create engaging shelf displays and staff-pick showcases that drive sales.

Statutory notice applies during probation. A six-week review will discuss the Employee's familiarity with new releases and backlist titles, their confidence hosting or assisting at author events, and integration with the existing bookselling team.

Permanent employment follows successful probation. Extension may be offered if the Employee has not yet worked through a major trading period such as Christmas or World Book Day, where event coordination and high-volume stock management skills are tested.
