Parties and Contract Type
This Employment Contract is between the Employer, operating a self-service laundromat with coin-operated and card-operated washing machines and dryers, and the Employee. The business may also offer drop-off wash-and-fold services, commercial laundry for local businesses, and dry cleaning collection points. Staff responsibilities include equipment monitoring, customer assistance, and facility cleanliness.
The Employee begins permanent employment from the Start Date under the employment laws of the applicable jurisdiction. This agreement is the complete statement of the employment relationship.
Laundromat work involves monitoring industrial washing machines and dryers, handling customer garments with care, managing change machines and payment systems, and maintaining a clean, safe environment in a facility that may operate extended hours or around the clock.
Term, Probation, and Probation Review
A three-month probation period applies. The Employer assesses the Employee's ability to maintain equipment functionality (identifying faults, clearing jams, escalating repair needs), customer service quality, wash-and-fold order accuracy and turnaround time, and the cleanliness of the facility during and between shifts.
Either party may terminate during probation with statutory notice. A review after six weeks covers the Employee's ability to manage peak-hour machine demand, handle customer complaints about garment damage, and maintain accurate records of cash collections and service orders.
Permanent status is confirmed after satisfactory probation. Extension may be offered if the Employee requires further training on commercial account management or specialty fabric handling for premium wash-and-fold clients.
Duties, Role, and Exclusivity
The Employee monitors machines, assists customers, processes wash-and-fold orders, cleans the facility, and manages payment systems. Outside laundry or dry cleaning employment requires the Employer's written consent.
Remuneration, Benefits, and Pay
Salary is paid monthly in arrears. Staff may use machines at no charge for personal laundry. Evening and weekend shift premiums may apply for extended trading hours.
Working Time, Location, and Hours
The laundromat may operate from early morning to late evening or 24 hours. The Employee works from the premises on a shift rota that ensures coverage during all trading hours. No regular off-site work is expected.

Why laundromat businesses need a employment contract
Laundromat employees often handle sensitive information, operate specialised equipment, or interact directly with customers, making role-specific employment contracts essential. A laundromat employment contract must address industry-standard working patterns, health and safety obligations, and any required certifications or training. Restrictive covenants like non-compete and non-solicitation clauses need to be calibrated to laundromat market norms to be enforceable.
