Parties and Contract Type
This Employment Contract is between the Employer, an auto repair shop providing mechanical servicing, diagnostics, and repair work for passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and potentially fleet accounts, and the Employee. The workshop requires qualified mechanics, MOT testers, service advisors, and apprentices capable of working across a range of vehicle makes and systems.
The Employee is engaged permanently from the Start Date. The contract operates under applicable employment law and forms the complete agreement between the parties.
Auto repair work involves operating vehicle lifts, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment, handling engine oils, brake fluid, and other automotive chemicals, and working in a workshop environment with noise, fume, and manual handling risks. The Employee acknowledges these conditions and maintains all required industry certifications.
Term, Probation, and Probation Review
Probation lasts three months. For mechanics, the Employer assesses diagnostic accuracy, repair quality, efficiency against standard labour times, and compliance with workshop safety procedures. For service advisors, evaluation covers customer communication, job card accuracy, parts ordering efficiency, and upselling of recommended services.
Statutory notice applies during probation. A review at six weeks covers the Employee's comebacks (repairs returned for rework), adherence to manufacturer service schedules, tool care and workshop tidiness, and professional conduct with vehicle owners during handover.
Permanent employment follows successful probation. Extension is available if the Employee is completing a manufacturer training programme, MOT tester qualification, or hybrid/electric vehicle certification.
Duties, Role, and Exclusivity
The Employee performs vehicle servicing, diagnostics, and repairs as assigned, maintains workshop tools, and completes job cards accurately. Private repair work using the Employer's premises or competing garage employment requires written consent.
Remuneration, Benefits, and Pay
Salary is paid monthly in arrears, with rates reflecting the Employee's qualification level. The Employer funds mandatory training and certification renewals. Staff receive discounted parts and labour for personal vehicle repairs.
Working Time, Location, and Hours
The workshop operates during standard weekday hours with Saturday morning openings. The Employee works from the workshop premises. Overtime may be required to complete urgent fleet or breakdown repairs.
