Maison Claret
Parties and Contract Type
Maison Claret, a fashion and lifestyle boutique retailing curated apparel, accessories, and homeware from its registered retail premises, enters into this Employment Contract with the Employee identified in Schedule 1. The boutique employs sales consultants, visual merchandisers, stock handlers, and store management personnel who uphold the brand's reputation for personalised customer service.
Employment commences on a permanent basis from the Start Date specified in the Employee's offer documentation. This contract constitutes the entire agreement between the parties and is governed by the employment legislation applicable in the jurisdiction where the boutique operates. All previous verbal or written arrangements are superseded.
Boutique retail demands attentiveness to brand presentation, product knowledge spanning seasonal collections, and a consultative approach to customer styling. The Employee recognises that maintaining the store's visual standards, handling high-value merchandise with care, and contributing to a refined shopping atmosphere are fundamental expectations of the role.
Term, Probation, and Probation Review
The probationary period lasts three months from the Start Date. Throughout this time, the Employer evaluates the Employee's product knowledge across current and incoming collections, their ability to build client relationships and generate repeat custom, visual merchandising aptitude, and compliance with stock handling and loss prevention procedures.
Either party may terminate during probation with statutory minimum notice. A formal review at the six-week point addresses sales conversion rates, styling advice confidence, till operation accuracy, and the Employee's integration within the team's service culture.
Successful probation leads to permanent confirmation with full contractual protections. Extension of up to three additional months may be applied where the Employee has not yet completed a seasonal changeover cycle or requires further development in personal styling consultations or clienteling techniques.
Duties, Role, and Exclusivity
Duties include advising customers on product selection, maintaining visual displays, processing sales transactions, and managing stock deliveries. The Employee shall not engage in competing retail activity without written approval from the Employer.
Remuneration, Benefits, and Pay
Salary is paid monthly in arrears at the gross rate confirmed in the offer letter. A seasonal sales bonus may apply based on individual and store performance. Staff discount on boutique merchandise is provided per the Employer's internal policy.
Working Time, Location, and Hours
Shifts align with boutique trading hours, including weekends and extended hours during peak retail periods. The primary workplace is the store premises, with occasional attendance at trunk shows, styling events, or partner brand activations.

Why boutique businesses need a employment contract
Boutique employees often handle sensitive information, operate specialised equipment, or interact directly with customers, making role-specific employment contracts essential. A boutique employment contract must address industry-standard working patterns, health and safety obligations, and any required certifications or training. Restrictive covenants like non-compete and non-solicitation clauses need to be calibrated to boutique market norms to be enforceable.
