Introduction and Acceptance
Serenova Wellness Spa offers therapeutic and relaxation treatments including massage, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy, and holistic wellness services. By booking an appointment, purchasing a treatment voucher, or entering our spa facility, you agree to the terms outlined in this document.
All treatments are administered by qualified therapists holding recognised industry certifications. Our facilities comply with health and safety regulations, and we maintain rigorous hygiene standards across all treatment rooms, communal areas, and equipment. We carry professional indemnity insurance for every practitioner on our team.
Before your first treatment, you will be asked to complete a health consultation form. This form captures medical conditions, allergies, skin sensitivities, pregnancy status, and any other information relevant to your safety during treatment. You must answer honestly and in full. Failure to disclose relevant health information releases us from liability for any adverse reaction that disclosure would have prevented.
These terms are updated periodically. The current version is available at our reception desk and on our website. Booking a treatment after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Scope of Services
Our treatment menu includes Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, hot stone therapy, aromatherapy, facials for various skin types, body scrubs, mud wraps, manicures, pedicures, and specialist treatments such as lymphatic drainage and reflexology. Treatment durations and prices are listed on our website and printed menu.
Appointments should be booked in advance. Walk-in availability is limited and cannot be guaranteed. We request that you arrive fifteen minutes before your appointment to complete check-in and prepare for your treatment. Late arrivals will receive a shortened treatment to avoid disrupting subsequent bookings, with no reduction in price.
Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment or no-shows are charged at fifty per cent of the treatment price. Spa day packages and group bookings carry stricter cancellation terms communicated at the time of booking.
Gift vouchers and prepaid treatment packages are non-refundable and valid for twelve months from the date of purchase. Vouchers may be redeemed against any treatment of equal or lesser value. If the chosen treatment exceeds the voucher value, the balance is payable at the time of booking.
Acceptable Use
Guests must shower before using the pool, sauna, or steam room. Mobile phones should be set to silent in all treatment and relaxation areas. We reserve the right to refuse treatment to anyone who appears intoxicated, unwell, or whose behaviour disrupts the environment for other guests.
Intellectual Property
All treatment protocols, branded product formulations, photography, website content, and marketing materials created by Serenova Wellness Spa are our proprietary assets. Commercial reproduction or redistribution requires our written permission.
Limitation of Liability and Indemnities
Our total liability for any claim related to a treatment is limited to the fee paid for that specific treatment. We are not liable for adverse reactions where you failed to complete the health consultation form accurately or withheld information about a known medical condition or allergy.

Why spa businesses need a terms & conditions
Spa businesses face industry-specific liability risks that generic terms and conditions fail to address. From service guarantees and refund policies to acceptable use and limitation of liability, a spa T&C document must reflect the actual way your business operates. Clear, enforceable terms reduce disputes, chargebacks, and exposure to costly litigation.
The global spa market is valued at $135 billion and projected to grow at 12.1% CAGR through 2030.

What makes spa planning different
Treatment room utilisation is the metric that separates profitable spas from struggling ones. Each room represents fixed cost whether occupied or empty. A six-room spa operating at 65% utilisation during peak hours and 30% off-peak generates roughly half the revenue of the same spa running at 85% and 55% respectively. Your business plan should model utilisation by day of week and time slot, not as a single annual average.
Choosing between employed therapists and self-employed contractors shapes your cost structure and service consistency. Employed therapists cost 40-55% of treatment revenue when you factor in wages, National Insurance, pensions, and training. Self-employed therapists take 50-60% of the treatment price but eliminate employer obligations. The trade-off is control versus flexibility, and most successful spas run a core team of employed staff supplemented by contractors for peak periods.
Retail product sales should target 15-25% of total spa revenue, yet many operators treat them as an afterthought. A spa generating £300,000 annually in treatments should aim for £45,000-£75,000 in product sales. Products carry 40-60% gross margins with zero labour cost per sale. Staff training on product recommendation, attractive point-of-sale displays, and post-treatment product prescriptions are the levers that drive this revenue stream.
Medical aesthetics represents the highest-margin upsell pathway for day spas. Treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, and LED therapy command £100-£400 per session with 70-80% gross margins. However, they require additional qualifications (Level 7 aesthetic qualifications for injectable treatments), specialist insurance, and clinical governance protocols. The investment in training and equipment (£10,000-£30,000) typically pays back within 6-12 months.
Health intake and liability management protect both clients and the business. Every new client needs a consultation form covering medical history, allergies, medications, and contraindications. Failure to screen properly exposes you to negligence claims. Professional indemnity insurance costs £300-£1,500 per therapist annually. Your business plan should include a compliance budget for intake systems, ongoing staff training, and insurance premiums.
Spa business plan FAQ
How much does it cost to open a day spa
A day spa with 4-6 treatment rooms typically requires £80,000-£250,000 to open. Major costs include premises fit-out (£30,000-£100,000), treatment beds and equipment (£15,000-£40,000), product stock (£5,000-£15,000), technology and booking systems (£3,000-£8,000), marketing launch budget (£5,000-£15,000), and working capital for 3-6 months of operating costs. A single-room home spa can start from £10,000-£30,000 with significantly lower ongoing overheads.
What qualifications do spa therapists need in the UK
UK spa therapists typically need NVQ Level 3 or VTCT Level 3 in Beauty Therapy, which covers massage, facials, and body treatments. Specialist treatments require additional certifications. For example, hot stone massage, microdermabrasion, or chemical peels each need separate accredited training. Injectable aesthetics (Botox, dermal fillers) require a minimum Level 7 qualification and a prescribing licence. All therapists need professional indemnity insurance to practise.
What are typical spa profit margins
Day spas typically achieve 10-20% net profit margins when well-managed. Gross margins on treatments range from 45-65% depending on the therapist cost model. Retail products deliver 40-60% gross margins. The most profitable spas achieve net margins of 20-25% by maintaining treatment room utilisation above 70%, keeping therapist costs below 50% of treatment revenue, and generating at least 15% of total revenue from product sales.
