There are dozens of AI business plan generators on the market. Most produce the same generic output with different branding. We tested seven of the most popular tools by generating the same business plan (a London-based coffee shop) on each platform. Here's what we found.
Ranking criteria were output quality (40%), pricing and value (25%), features beyond generation (20%), and ease of use (15%). Full disclosure, FoundersPlan is our product. We've scored it honestly against the competition.
1. FoundersPlan
Best for. founders who need more than just a business plan.
Pricing. ÂŁ19/month (Starter), ÂŁ49/month (Pro), ÂŁ129/month (Business). First generation free, no card required.
What stood out. section-by-section streaming generation, 15+ document types (business plans, NDAs, privacy policies, employment contracts, pitch decks), section-level regeneration, PDF and DOCX export with custom branding. The output quality was strong, with industry-specific financial projections and market analysis that referenced real data points.
Limitations. newer platform with a smaller user base than established competitors. No one-time purchase option.
2. LivePlan
Best for. founders who want SBA-approved plans and bank-ready formatting.
Pricing. $20/month (Standard), $40/month (Premium). 35-day money-back guarantee.
What stood out. the most established player in the space. 500+ sample business plans. Financial forecasting tools with automatic chart generation. Bank and SBA loan-ready formatting. Strong integrations with QuickBooks and Xero for pulling in actual financial data.
Limitations. not AI-native. LivePlan is primarily a template and financial modelling tool with some AI assistance, not a full AI generation platform. The output requires more manual input and editing than pure AI generators. Higher price for what is largely a guided template system. US-centric.
3. Bizplanr
Best for. founders who want a single business plan at a one-time price.
Pricing. $99 one-time for one business plan.
What stood out. clean interface, solid output quality, free financial model generator. Industry-specific examples across dozens of verticals. No subscription required.
Limitations. one-time pricing means one plan. Need a second plan? Pay again. No legal or compliance document generation. Batch generation (no streaming). Limited section-level editing.
4. Upmetrics
Best for. teams who want collaborative planning with AI assistance.
Pricing. $7/month (Starter), $14/month (Premium). 14-day free trial.
What stood out. AI-powered writing assistant within a collaborative editor. Financial forecasting with visual dashboards. Pitch deck creation. 400+ sample plans. The collaborative features make it suitable for founding teams working together on a plan.
Limitations. the AI assists your writing rather than generating complete sections autonomously. You're still doing significant manual work. The output quality of AI suggestions was more generic than dedicated AI generators.
5. PrometAI
Best for. founders who want AI-generated plans with financial modelling.
Pricing. Free tier available. Paid plans from $12/month.
What stood out. strong presence in AI search results. Clean generation flow. Financial projections included. The free tier is generous enough to evaluate the output before committing.
Limitations. focused primarily on business plans. Limited document type coverage. The interface could be more polished. Less established track record than LivePlan or Bizplanr.
6. Growth Grid
Best for. budget-conscious founders who only need a business plan.
Pricing. ÂŁ14/month or ÂŁ120/year (ÂŁ10/month).
What stood out. lowest monthly price among subscription-based tools. 150+ language support. Sequential streaming generation. Simple, focused product that does one thing.
Limitations. business plans only, no other document types. 3.3/5 Trustpilot rating with recurring complaints about the cancellation process. Limited editing capabilities. No custom branding or advanced export options.
7. 15MinutePlan
Best for. founders who want the fastest possible generation.
Pricing. From $49 one-time.
What stood out. speed-focused approach. As the name suggests, the generation process is quick. Clean output formatting. Straightforward questionnaire.
Limitations. limited customisation after generation. Fewer industry-specific options than competitors. The speed advantage comes at the cost of depth in some sections.
